Hi All, it has been a long time since I've been on this board. I have Jensen Imperial cabs loaded with EV T35 tweets, 8hd/T25 midhorn, and SP15 woofers. The 8hd horn is very Honky but he area in the cab it is in is only 8" tall and the 811 won't fit in there. I need measurements for the height of the 811 without the flange. If it will work without the flange, top and bottom, I will start looking for a pair with broken tabs. Cheers.

What driver are you using on that 8HD?
1823M is horrid...1829 is much better...Atlas is pretty bad too.
I would worry about cutting the flanges from an 811- those horn lips are out in free air on purpose.

Just saw the T-25 back at the top...see if you can borrow a set of 1829 to try...$80 to $160 pair typically...if they don't fix it it is the horn.
Note-most are 16 ohms...
Another driver that sounds good on that horn is the Gollehon 4660- but it's hard to find...
P.R.O. 4660 is same driver...

Hi Igor,
It's been a long time for me too. The 811's I have here measure 6 15/16" from outside of lip to outside of lip.

Consider the Just Big and Loud 2345- 5 1/2 " tall with flange.

Hi OG and Carl. Looks like both of them would work well. The AKfest is coming up in a couple of weeks. Maybe someone there will have a set up with the 811 that I can listen to. I am not totally sure if the problem I am having is the horn...but I am almost possitive it is. Not so bad on female voices, but it really gets bad on male voices. Cheers.

If you cut the flange even with the lips you are still leaving a substantial amount of flange. You only want to cut the top and bottom don't you?

Hi Carl, yes, I just need to take off enough of the top and bottom to make it fit. Cheers.

Hi OG, I have talked to a number of people and they all experience the same thing. The 8hd is a difraction horn and at higher volumes the sound waves start bouncing off the walls and cause issues. It has been a long while since I heard the 811 but if memory serves me right, there was no honk. Cheers.

8HD's are a funny beast...I worked with them a lot in the 70's.
IMHO they sound horrid with 1823's. OTOH I used them for a substantial number of national acts in stage monitors without complaint. EV 12", Gollehon 4660 and 4 Motorlas, crossed at 800 and 7k.
The listener was on axis, so pattern control wasn't an issue, I am sure the horn was beaming by 7k.
Groups who complained about those were given our boxes with K130's and 2 inch JBL's. Most of those guys are now retired and totally deaf.
